From God to Thee

What would you do
If you lost it all today
Everything you hold dear
Was suddenly taken away
What would you do
If you lost someone today
People that you love
Suddenly taken away

If you were abandoned today
All of your friends
Suddenly turned away
What would you do
If by surprise today
You find out
Your health is gone away
What would you do


Would you cry at the loss
Of all you possessions
Strike out in anger
Or fall into depression
Would you weep at the loss
Of one whom you care
Or bottle it up
Deep inside somewhere
Would you be angry
At your friends who turned
Feel betrayed
Like you were burned
Would you shudder
At facing your demise
Be angry and confused
Feeling sorry, me why


What is it that you value
Where is your trust
What is it that’s important
Decide we must
Do you place faith
In things temporary
That someday will pass
To make you merry
Do you hold tight
To that which will crumble
Making your life
Count on things which will tumble
Does your joy come
Materially
On that which is
Temporary


Might I suggest
Basing life on the real
Even though you can’t of it
See touch or feel
Something more than
Wood flesh or stone
Something that is there
When you are alone
Something that has
Stood time’s test
That does not go away
Like so much of the rest
Love is the answer
Love is the key
The love of Jesus
From God to thee
