Biblical Climate Change: global warming

Since the late 1980s we have been hearing a lot about global warming.  It seems to be the latest scientific gloom and doom scenario to scare people into accepting a more regulatory government to save them from certain catastrophe.  The weather stations rally talk it up, especially this last year where it was so warm and hot with drought covering most of the US.  Does the Bible have anything to say about climate change in the future?

In Luke chapter 21 Jesus gives an account of what the last days will be like.  We do get a few weather clues intermingled in with the affairs of men that are mentioned.  The first one comes in verse 11, "...and famines, and pestilence...".  Famines and disease are often associated with drought.  Drought is often associated with heat.  It is not conclusive though, we need to look further.

v25-6 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

While it does not say what signs in the sun, science has found a definite correlation between temperatures on earth and sunspot activity.  "Solar activity has shown a major spike in the twentieth century, corresponding to global warming. This cyclic variation was acknowledged by a recent NASA study, which reviewed a great deal of past climate data. The report indicates solar cycles have been impacting Earth since the Industrial Revolution."

"The seas and the waves roaring".  In a warmer climate, What we would expect to find is greater hurricanes and typhoons around the globe.  Warmer sea temperatures are the fuel for such sotrms.  This would certainly be cause for the seas and the waves roaring.

" Mens hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth"  This would certainly seem to be what is going on in recent years with the global warming idea being so promoted by the media and governments.  The dire predictions of global warming have people scrambling, wondering if we will even survive.  An example of the hysteria might be the title for this article, "Global Warming Effects Could Kill 10,000 in the UK by 2012" http://www.environmentalgraffiti.com/sciencetech/global-warming-effects-could-kill-10000-in-the-uk-by-2012/785

In Revelations chapter 16, verses 8 and 9, we read, "And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory."

These verses seem to be taking place during the second half or immediately after the 7 year reign of the antichrist when judgement is being poured out upon the earth.  The event looks to be of a more sudden nature and not one that has been building up over time.  We can't tell for sure from scripture though whether or not some conditions are built up previous to this or not. We do know that this is a punishment meted out upon those who remain on earth who are tied to the beast.

We do know that God made a priomise though, Genesis 8: 22: While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. So whether Global warming exists or not, it will not rise to the level of completely destroying all living things on the face of the earth.  We do see however that there are verses that indicate the possibility that global warming could indeed occur as we approach the last days.
